Far more than you need to know about South Africa's new wines
Cool newcomers
Bruce Jack's Flagstone (Oddbins and The Wine Society/Flagstone Wines, NY) label has been profiled in wines of the week earlier this year. Tasting his ambitious, wide, variously named and geographically diverse range of bottlings blind in the Fairbairn Capital Trophy Wine Show proved that the overall standard is impressively high. The Berrio Cabernet Sauvignon 2001 comes, like the Sauvignon Blanc, from the cool Elim area and is very unlike most South African Cabernets. He is particularly excited about the 2003 version.
