The Dark Horse Shiraz
SA Shiraz Small Producers Tasting
Last Wednesday you were among the record amount of eager palates who sat
themselves down for the 2nd Wine Cellar SA Shiraz Small Producer's Tasting.
Many thanks again to Jacques Borman, chairman of the Shiraz Association and
winemaker at Boschkloof, for his masterly presentation of the tasting and to
all the producers who so enthusiastically entered their wines and supported
the event.
A whopping 17 handcrafted wines were poured over two flights. Wines were
scored out of 20 points and half-points were not allowed. Out of the 34
tasters 27 elected to score the wines and the averaged scores follow:
16 or more points:
Flagstone Dark Horse 2003; Camberley 2004
151&Mac218;2 to 16 points:
Anthony Smook Shiraz Reserve 2003; Boschrivier 2003 & Boekenhoutskloof Syrah
2001
15 to 151&Mac218;2 points:
Rudi Schultz 2004; Homtini 2004; Boschkloof 2004; Luddite 2003; Sanctum
2003; BWC 2003.
Less than 15 points:
Culraithin 2002; Akkerdal 2003 & Jack & Knox 2004; Migliarina 2004; Topaz
2004; Stonycroft 2003.
Thank you very much for making this year's Shiraz tasting such a jovial and
informative event. We hope to see you all again next year!
Kind Regards
The Wine Cellar Team.
