John an Erica Platter's: Good Food. Good Wine - The Ridge
We have not just tasted (swirl.sniff, spit) the following wines; we've gone the whole way and actually drunk the bottle
Equally cool off the press is Flagstone The Berrio Sauvignon Blanc 2005, also from an off-the-beaten-track vineyard - at Elim (near Cape Agulhas). The previous vintage was chosen by UK writer Tom Stevenson as one of the wines from round the world (the only one from South Africa) to be served at the launch of his two new books: latest editions of The Wine Report and Sotheby's Wine Encyclopaedia. Describing it as halfway between a Loire and a New Zealand Sauvignon, Tom gave it a major thumbs-up. The latest 2005 is possibly even better. Most impressive. Not, thankfully, ever corked, because it's closed (bravo!) with screw-cap.
