> Our barrel maturation tunnel
THE CAPSULE| September 2001

Dear Flagstone Friend -

I write this to you from our new offices in the Historic Dock House on Portswood Ridge which stands above our barrel maturation tunnel. It’s Sunday morning and a wonderful blustery, wet and cold Cape winter’s day outside – perfect for hibernating vines and recovering-from-Saturday-night winemakers.

Corkscrews
We have sourced the perfect corkscrew for our 100% taint-free synthetic closures.  They have a double leverage system for ease of extraction and a Teflon coated screw so you don’t get irritated with the closure getting stuck on the screw. These are available to you (less postage) at cost - R30.00 each. Please email Belinda if you want one – we find they make opening a bottle of Flagstone even more enjoyable!

Synthetic Closure Research
We now have over 3000 experimental bottlings across three vintages, under 12 different closures (including screw caps, crown caps, glass stoppers, five types of synthetic cork and 8 types of bark cork), using different varieties and across different wine styles. Like most things at Flagstone we try to plan and carry out our experiments as scientifically and accurately as possible.
